Troubleshooting Guide
▾❌ Permission Denied / Blocked
- Look for a mic icon in your browser's address bar and click Allow.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy & Security → Site Settings → Microphone → Allow.
- Firefox: Click the lock icon → Permissions → Microphone → Allow.
- Safari: Safari menu → Settings for This Website → Microphone → Allow.
- iPhone/iPad: iOS Settings → Safari or Chrome → Microphone → Enable.
❌ How to Record and Play Back
- Step 1: Click Start and wait for the green Live badge.
- Step 2: Click Record — button turns red with a pulsing glow and a timer appears.
- Step 3: Speak into your microphone.
- Step 4: Click Stop — button returns to amber.
- Step 5: Click Playback — you will hear your recording through your speakers or headphones.
- Tip: use headphones during playback to avoid echo feedback.
❌ No Signal / Flat Line
- Check the Input Device dropdown and try selecting a different microphone.
- Make sure the mic is plugged in before clicking Start Test.
- Windows: Right-click speaker icon → Sound Settings → Input — check input level moves when you speak.
- Mac: System Settings → Sound → Input — select your mic and check the input meter.
- Some USB mics have a physical mute button — check it is not engaged.
❌ Mobile Error (clears after ~1 minute)
- Normal on iOS/Safari — the audio system initializes slowly. Wait a moment then try again.
- Your URL must start with https:// for mic access to work on mobile.
- Android Chrome: tap the lock icon → Site Settings → Microphone → Allow.
✅ Low Volume
- Increase microphone gain in your system sound settings.
- Windows: enable Microphone Boost in Recording Device Properties → Levels.
- Move the mic closer — 6 to 12 inches from your mouth is ideal.
ℹ️ Understanding the Displays
- Frequency Spectrum — tall bright bars mean strong audio at that frequency. Voice produces bars in the left-center area.
- Waveform — flat line means silence. Oscillating waves mean audio is detected.
- Spectrogram — scrolling heat map. Bright green is loud, dark is quiet. Newest audio is on the right.
- Volume dB — minus 60 is near silence. Minus 12 to minus 6 is a good talking level. Near 0 is too loud.
